ABOUT ME
Why I'm Running
First and foremost, I am a husband, a father, a veteran, and a patriot. My family has lived in southeastern North Carolina since the early 1700s, and members of my family have served in every major American war. This state and this nation mean something to me- they are not just ideas, but living legacies of sacrifice and perseverance. The America I grew up in no longer exists. The world has changed rapidly. I’ve lived through the race riots of the 1990s, the Y2K panic, September 11th, the 2008 financial crisis, the COVID disaster, and the disastrous withdrawal from Afghanistan. Today, our nation stands buried under $38 trillion in debt, giving away billions to foreign interests while our own infrastructure crumbles and the American middle class is bled dry.
As a young man from Fayetteville, I joined the Army at 18 as an infantryman. I earned my first Purple Heart in combat before I was even old enough to drink a beer. I came home with the invisible wounds of war- PTSD, TBI, and the battles that followed: suicidal ideation, addiction, and instability. But I overcame those struggles. I rebuilt myself. I became a community leader here in Wilmington- serving in veterans’ groups, church men’s ministries, environmental efforts, and rehabilitation programs. I’ve dedicated my life to service- not to take, but to give.
